    1. Zinc deficiency is common on many soil types including calcareous, heavy clay, sandy soils.
    2. In India, zinc-deficient soils occupy almost 50% of the agricultural area and are a critical constraint on yield, but crops are highly responsive to zinc fertilization.
    3. Zinc deficiency varies from year to year. Wet, cool, cloudy weather during the early growth season increases the deficiency. Zinc deficiency in corn is occasionally noted in June, but the deficiency disappears after the soils dry out and warm up.
    4. Mainly used in Dry edible beans, corn, onions, sorghum, spinach and sweet corn are the most responsive crops.

    • IMPORTANCE OF BORON IN AGRICULTURE
    1. Boron is an essential element for plant development, growth and crop yielding.
    2. It helps in seed development by helping in transfer of water and nutrition in plants.
    3. It is essential in the balance between sugar and starch, and functions in the movement of sugar.
    4. Boron is a micronutrient critical to the growth and health of all crops.
    5. It is a component of plant cell walls and reproductive structures.
    6. It is a mobile nutrient within the soil, meaning it is prone to movement within the soil.
    7. Since it is required in small amounts, it is important to apply fortified SSP as evenly as possible across the field.
